Miami Skyline Getting Crowded

A flurry of new high-rise real estate developments is drastically changing the Miami skyline. In the heart of Miami, along Biscayne Bay, 114 major constructions projects are currently under way. And most of them are high rise condo buildings.

The current construction fever in Miami's urban center is being fueled by a trend toward people moving back to city downtown areas, low interest rates, a shortage of other waterfront development opportunities, and a major about-face from the local government, which has cleaned up its act considerably.

The Miami Herald reports: "'We are building an instant city; what should take 15 years will take three,' said Michael Cannon, a Miami real-estate analyst."

Local politicians like Miami Mayor Manny Diaz hope the explosion in building will help to revitalize downtown Miami.
